These terms cover your use of the Writers Nook application and website. By buying or using Writers Nook, you agree to them.
Your one-time purchase grants you a perpetual, personal licence to use Writers Nook on the devices you personally use, with up to three active activations. One licence covers both Windows and macOS, and the mobile companion app when it is released. The licence is yours to keep; it does not expire.
Writers Nook is sold as a one-time purchase. Updates within the version you bought are included. A future major version may be offered as a separate, optional upgrade — never as a subscription you are moved onto.
The AI Writing Assistant is an optional monthly subscription, separate from your app licence. The app is complete without it, and no writing feature depends on it.
The subscription includes a monthly allowance of AI usage credits. Credits are consumed as you use the assistant, at a rate that depends on the model you choose and the length of your request and its reply. Your allowance resets at the start of each billing period and unused credits do not carry over. If you use up your allowance you can buy an optional top-up pack or wait for the next reset; either way, the rest of the app keeps working exactly as before.
You can cancel at any time from your account page. Cancelling stops future billing at the end of the current period and ends access to the managed assistant. You may instead supply your own Anthropic or OpenAI key, or run a local model, in which case you pay your provider directly and we bill you nothing.
Device Sync is an optional monthly subscription. It uses an end-to-end encrypted relay to pass changes between your own devices. Your writing is encrypted on your device before it leaves it — we cannot read it, and the relay does not store it. You can cancel any time; the app keeps working, your local files remain yours, and your devices simply stop syncing.
Your writing is yours. We claim no ownership of anything you write in Writers Nook, and we do not collect or store your manuscripts.
When you use the AI Writing Assistant, the text you send — the excerpt, your instruction, and the story context you chose to include — is transmitted to the provider that serves your selected model so it can generate a reply. Under our commercial agreements with those providers, your prompts are not used to train their models. Text you have marked as hidden from AI is removed before the request is sent. If you use your own API key, your requests go directly from your machine to your provider and never pass through us.
AI output is generated by a machine and can be wrong, generic, or unsuitable. Check it before you rely on it, and remember that what you choose to publish is yours to stand behind.
Please don't resell, redistribute, or sublicense the software, or attempt to circumvent licensing. Don't resell or share managed AI capacity with people who haven't paid for it. Automated or abusive use of the AI service — scripted bulk requests, sharing one key across many people, or farming trial credits — may have its access suspended. Your writing is yours; the software is ours to licence.
Purchases are covered by our refund policy. Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record for every purchase and handles billing, invoicing, and applicable sales tax on our behalf.
Writers Nook is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We work hard to keep it stable and your work safe, but we cannot guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to Writers Nook is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses. Writers Nook keeps your work in ordinary files on your own disk and includes version history — please keep your own backups as well. Nothing here limits any rights you have under consumer law that cannot be waived.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and we each agree to the courts of Ontario for any dispute. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live.
We may update these terms; we'll note the date above and, for material changes, let you know by email.
